Many of us Brit's have no idea of who and how motoring organisations work out side of the UK. Occasionally you may hear the letters "triple A" mentioned in a USA cop series but that is the nearest we come to. In fact when i was communicating on the web recently, no one in the USA knew what the term breakdown cover was, such is the differences of understanding.

The letters AAA stands for the American Automobile Association and like similar organizations in the UK, are known for their emergency road services or breakdown cover to me and you.

But typically has also moved into the finance and travel industry rather than the automobile club it started out as, being able to book holidays anywhere in the world including cruises. The motoring organisations in the UK have only focused on travel that involved driving. I.e. bed and breakfast, hotels and European driving issues. Another point is because of the shear size of the USA, there are also local AAA's around. (Well not so local as some states are as big as England) In fact when you visit their web sites you are encouraged to enter your zip code to establish where your local AAA is.

The "triple A" is also associated with the canadian association and claims to be the biggest club in the Northern Hemisphere, covering the whole of the USA and as we said earlier, Canada too.

They also provide maps to their members, but with satellite navigation and internet resources I can't see how that is much of a benefit in the 21st century
