After completing a USA car salvage site it became apparent that when it comes to car breakdowns, that GMC, (General Motor Company) the largest motor company in the world probably has the most amount of breakdown cover callouts each year and the need for car parts is probably bigger than anyone else in the world.
Of course in America where GMC tends to be known by its corporate name rather than Vauxhall here in the UK and Opel in Europe, breakdown cover is called other names such as emergency roadside repair. GMC owns a whole range of USA branded companies, one wonders why? Just call them selves GMC.
After compiling the manufacturers that when you condense all the makes down to one, there are less makes on sale in the USA than here in the UK not counting all the joint ventures of course.
So I would imagine that when the breakdown cover man goes out, he will have to carry less different types of car parts than here in the UK
For the RAC and The AA you turn up at their site and within seconds you know how much your breakdown cover premium is likely to be with easy links to follow through to your chosen policy type, but it just is not that easy with Green Flag.
There are price prompts as you arrive on the homepage, which look pretty attractive, but at this point I doubt many would expect to fill in a form o at least 2 pages with all the criteria of your car, before you get the breakdown cover quote. Inevitably it ends up being more expensive that those prices on the homepage.
Because the car was nearly 10 years old, we have to presume this pushed the recovery premium up, to an annual cost just below what The AA was quoting without the form filling. You can’t help thinking that many who do not like filling in forms with personal information, may add false information about themselves, i.e.post code, and telephone number, just on case they did not like the final quote. After all, Green Flag now have that information which could be used for further unwanted communication.
We are not suggesting this would actually happen, but you have to ask the question of why they need you email address, home address, and other sensitive information if it plays no part in the final price that is quoted for your breakdown cover policy.
It would be a better procedure if you filled in the factors only that affected your breakdown cover premium quote and then if the potential customer agrees to go ahead; at that point they could continue with the form and add the personal information.
The truth is that as soon as the form filling procedure starts, there will be a section of the public that will click away, as for decades you would join your motoring club, for a set fee.
It has been a while since Breakdown Cover Net had a quick review of the pricing of the main roadside assistance polices available today from the 3 big suppliers and we can clearly see it is a competitive world.
Well here are the scores on the board on the 4th September 2008, advertised directly on the websites. (more…)
We reported on our last blog about how good it was to see the AA on TV campaigning for us motorists, but what we failed to mention, is that this breakdown cover organisation does report on motoring issues via its website.
The latest report dated the 1st September 2008, tells us about the stupid rules that are applied to us motorists and mirrors reports seen on the national news over the week.
The new press release by the AA is based on a guide by the Flexible Thinking Forum and is called “overcome Stupidity” and challenges stupid decisions, like yellow lines that are only a few inches long and would not apply to a full sized car. Bus lanes which go past business property, meaning anyone leaving should get a ticket. Another example is, charging for the, length of car in Norwich, irrelevant of carbon emission output.
There are many more examples found by breakdown cover net that have just not been thought through, and maybe are in place just to tax the motorist more. It is a shame that these reports are not just that bit more in your face. Of course selling breakdown cover and their insurance polices are the priority, so you have to specifically go looking for these press releases to show he work the AA are doing to promote motoring needs throughout the UK.
It is probably time that we here at breakdown cover Net, start going through previous press releases together with other motoring organisation and help spread the word.
It has been a while since it has been seen but it was good to see the AA (who are the biggest provider of breakdown cover in the UK) come on to TV and campaign that although oil prices have dropped, the price we pay for our petrol does not seem to have reduced by the same level.
For us here at breakdown Cover net it was a refreshing sight, something would have occurred much more in the past, when these emergency recovery services were more of a motoring club than the insurance organisations they are today.
