I have been impressed with the online prices of cars from one specific car supermarket that shall remain nameless.
I asked for a quote on my wife’s car as a trade in and of course the figure quoted was much less than expected. in fact it took all the savings away from buying a car from a local dealer but getting the book price for my part ex.
But there was something that bothered me more. That was a charge to check the car over before I pick it up. it would checked to see if it was stolen and ensure it was road worthy.
This is the first time I have come across this charge. In fact the very reason why anyone would buy a car from a dealer is so you have a comeback if anything goes wrong.
In this case it is if, I would have to pay my £85 to ensure the dealer who is selling the car got it right?
Most dealers do these checks before they even buy the car and it is also a legal requirement to sell the car in a roadworthy condition. So I have to pay for the privilege of having them check the car over to ensure it is roadworthy and legal for them to sell
For me it is a way to reduce the selling price online and then get the money back in other ways.
Of course I did not start the deal, I will be looking elsewhere, to a dealer who knows their responsabilities as a motor dealer.
