Motor sport evokes vivid images of 30 second pit stops, 10-15 people in similar colour overalls rushing to greet the race driver, and getting down to checking the mechanism of the car while some others get down to changing tyres. Do you know who these people are? These guys at the pits and paddock and trackside are known as marshals. They are the real scene stealers during every F1 race. No marshals, no motor sport. Yes, it’s true.
Marshal is someone who likes motor sport, enjoy it immensely, but wants to be a part of the sport without actually competing in the races. These people offer their services for everything including essential administrative work to providing life-saving safety cover, from service halts to stop lines and beyond.
There is only one highly-recognised and reputable organisation for marshals in the UK and it is the British Motorsport Marshals Club, and this was once known as British Motor Racing Marshals Club. Today, it has as many as 1,750 members who come together, from different backgrounds in life, to pursue their desire to be part of this adrenaline pumping adventure sport. Moreover, all these men and women volunteer their services for free, and take immense pride in the fact that they contribute towards the sport!
Did You Know: BMMC is deemed as the leading independent marshals’ club in all of Europe and perhaps even the world….Amazing!
