breakdown cover

During the golden years of motoring, there was not doubt of who the authority was regarding breakdown cover or motoring issues in general. It was the RAC and the AA of course, both motoring clubs set up to help each other in emergencies and general advice. But now breakdown cover has become big business and has evolved into insurance companies or bought out by one. Originally charity foundaions were set up by these to continue working with motoring issues, the RAC Foundationand now AIM has taken over the AA concerns.
But these are orhganisations that focus more on the safty issue of motoring and our rights, but who is now the authority on breakdown cover?

The truth is, I don’t think anyone is anymore, the big companies sell it, the FSA treat it as a financial contract. There are still smaller organisations such as Gem motoring assistance and the Royal Automobile Club, but these are not large enough to be deemed as an authority.

It could be that comparison websites or review websites could be the next authority, where the term “word o mouth” is transfered onto the web.

If it is going to be that way, we would like to be become one of the mediums doing just that to enure the best information for you.

It is important to have as much information as possible for something that should get you home in an emergency.
