After a house, I reckon, the car is perhaps the second most expensive investment any one makes. In this series of five blogs, we will discuss one basic tip each on how a bit of TLC for your car can keep it happy forever!
Tip# 3: Get Your Hands Dirty!
The mechanism under the bonnet of your car is really a magical place. It functions just like our body, where each part has a vital role to play in the overall smooth functioning of the car.
The three things you need to check, always, are all fluids.
1) Check the Windscreen Wash fluid level on a regular basis. You can buy some from the garage and mix it with water according to the instruction on the bottle. Pour it in the container under the bonnet. Refer your car’s handbook to find out exactly where to pour it. Clean windscreen means better visibility.
2) Oil level is always checked with the dipstick. You must always check the engine oil level when the engine is still warm and the car is parked on a level surface. Pull out the dipstick, clean it with a cloth, put it back in, and pull out after 3-4 seconds. Look for the oil level at the bottom. Is it between the high and low levels as indicated on the stick? If the level is low, you may want to top it yourself or take it to the garage. Refer to handbook for grade of oil etc.
3) Coolant is the easiest to check. Contained in a transparent container, coolant keeps your car from overheating. Make sure the level is towards the maximum mark. Top up if you see that the coolant level is reaching the minimum mark.
