Well this week has been dominated by 2 transport stories on the news. The first was the petition against introducing road taxing to roads in the UK and the second was the fatal train crash in Cumbria where several people were injured and one was killed, to what could be faulty maintenance.
It is an indication of the state the UK is in, for just wanting to get from A to B. Do we use our cars or public transport. If we use our cars, we contribute to the congestion issues that the goverment want to tax us on, but if we choose public transport, we put our lives on the line.
The interim report on the train crash, suggests faulty points could be the factor to the train leaving its tracks and killing one person. Very similar factors to the Potters Bar accident a few years ago, that was supposed to change the way all maintenance was done on the railway network. In fact for months after, all points and maintenance was speeded up, creating major delays, in order to bring the system up to date and trouble free.
The only answer to congestion is good public transport, but even with high road taxes, I can’t see motorists leaving their cars at home with news like this.
