Just think of the last time you bought your car insurance. Either explaining details over the phone, on a form from the internet or even pen and paper. Just think of the time it takes to process each insurance application and then to administer the cover note and then check for no claims bonus etc, etc.
Yet when you buy breakdown cover, you get one price for one service and that is it. Not, how many miles do you travel, what car do you drive, what size of car, do you have any points on your license etc. So here is my question, why can’t insurance companies sell insurance the same way they sell breakdown cover? The costs of processing all that information must be a huge percentage of yours and mine premiums. How do the breakdown cover companies who just happen to be owned by insurance organisations anyway, do it? Some have thousands of patrolmen/women in vans night and day. If it cost effective to do this, why not normal car insurance?
I am sure some smart allec will add up the sums and say its not viable, but we believe it is, it will just take someone with the balls to do it.
