Japanese Insurance Issues
It wasn't until this information had been moved over that we realised it was filed in the wrong section and really should be under the insurance information part. However for now it stays until, all reviews have been finished, we add new information and choose to take some away. However for now were are talking Japanese
I remember talking to a colleague several years ago and he bought a certain japanese sports car direct from Japan because he argued it was better and cheaper. he went to say, that although this was a performance car, they never are driven past a certain speed because of the roads over there and are always low mileage. He came very involved in importing these for others too, but alas we lost contact
Well no it has all come to light again as my eldest son has bought a car originally from Japan. To me it is a Nissan Sunny, but to him it is some supped up saloon that can go as fast as a Porsche if not faster in a straight run. To prove it, he takes me to you tube to see footage of the cars racing at the local strip.
Of course as a concerned parent I asked about his insurance quote and at this point he stopped talking. "Bet you don't know" he said, meaning it obviously wasn't cheap. Apart from the fact that this is a performance car, there are also other issues regarding insurance. Because these were never officially imported to the UK, there are no real data on size of engine, performance, extras, security system etc. All the things needed to factor out an insurance quote.
Of course there are ways and means, but these ways and means cost more. he eventually got insured through a club that knows the specification of these cars and has done a deal with some insurance company, but it isn't as straight forward as a car official imported into the UK.
So before you consider any cost savings of bringing Japanese car into the UK, you should of course consider the extra outgoings it may cost you by doing so such as car insurance.
Extra Payment For Breakdown Cover
Well it may be a Japanese car and it may be an insurance policy but the good news about breakdown cover is that it will be the same premium as a normal car bought over here. Breakdown cover premiums are calculated in a different way and treat most cars the same. it may be a good idea if some of the parts are different to the UK. A breakdown recovery policy top get you car home, if there will be a difficulty repairing it at the roadside
