Motorcycles On The Road
There are inherent safety risks for motorcycle riders on the UK roads. The fact there are only 2 wheels getting to grip with the road, many bikes have more power for their size that motor cars and if they do have an accident, there is not protective shell to protect them and or a passenger.
Of course many motorcyclists would say it is the car driver that creates the most accidents by not spending that extra second looking out for motorcyclists. But one thing is sure, safe or not millions of riders hit the roads with their 2 wheel friends every year.
They are of course much cheaper to run than cars, cheaper to buy (in most cases), use less fuel etc. For many the thrill of riding a bike cannot be got anywhere else, except maybe the race track, with many bikes having engines bigger than a small car. You cannot get on one of these machines and just ride it, although many try. You should get a lot of experience of the roads on a smaller machine first.
Most Operators Offer Breakdown Cover For Motorcycles
Motorcycles breakdown just like motor cars, so most of the breakdown cover operators also offer options for the motorcycle rider. But there are some drawbacks such as the weather. You are not in a position to sit in your car and switch the radio waiting for the breakdown cover man.
You may think that the bigger machines are ridden by Hells Angels type individuals, but more and more you will find middle aged people from all walks of life taking to the roads, especially on the weekends. With the their leathers on they can look quiet intimidating until you speak to them and find out it is actually your local bank manager, enjoying the open air.
Scooters or their equivalent are becomming more and more poplar too, with some truly fashionable designs. Even F1 drivers have been seen, sitting on their 125cc machine out and about, or even at the track. there is no doubt that these images are encouraging others to join the 2 wheel club of motorcycling.
But as we started out on this article, you should always be aware of the risks or riding a motorcycle and that most riders have at sometime come off and hurt themselves, probably more that if they were in a car. So why not get some professional instruction and don't forget to be more aware of what is around you whist riding.
