Performance Driving Schools Are They Worth It?
It is not just a man thing to want to drive a car around a race track at high speed, but many women turn up for these driving experience days. They are sold as a gift experience but really are all a performance driving school as after all they do not just let you loose in these cars without expert instruction before hand.
Safety is the priority and as everyone dreams of flying around the corners it is not until you are behind the wheel that you realise it is not as easy as it looks. The car may hold the road better, but just being a few inches away from the right angle going into the corner can take you off and you could get hurt. Another reason for safety is that you probably will not have the track to yourself, there will be others out there, maybe testing their own cars are other learners from other schools.
On the face of it, these performance days appear quiet expensive, but when you consider the machine you are sitting probably cost upwardly of £60,000 and as much as the value of your car to insure each year, the maintenance, the safety, the track costs and of course professional instruction, then you get the idea that these performance schools are not cheap to run. Then when you look at the schools that offer F1 as an option and you are talking big money, to run.
So are they worth it for a days performance training. Well you have only to look at the faces of those that come away from them to get a resounding yes. There are of course some, that realise it is faster than they thought and maybe a bit harder and scarier than they first envisioned. But the majority come away grinning from ear to ear claiming to have had an experience of a lifetime.
For those though, who want to do this again and again, then forking out the few hundred quid per day for instruction may become too expensive. The solution is to join a local motor racing club and share the cars there. Or even get your own racing licence and race your own cars. You do not need a Ferrari to race, there are some cheaper lower classes, that when you strip the car down and take the weight away can still be very fast and exciting.
Motor racing is claimed cot started in the UK and it has some of the best technicians and design teams in the world. many F1 teams choose to base themselves in the UK because of this. So if you are considering a performance driving school day day, beware that you may just get the bug.
