RISC is a Charity that was launched at the European Tow Show in 2006, with the intention of providing immediate financial assistance to individuals working with the Recovery Industry, who are impacted by a work-related accident.

Motorist often do not appreciate just how much danger there is working on the roadside. In 2004 figures released by the Health and Safety Executive, showed that "three out of five serious motorway accidents, involved a broken down vehicle on the hard shoulder and in 1996 alone, 13 of the165 motorway fatalities occurred on the hard shoulder. One of the trade associations estimates that there are approximately 6-8 fatalities every year amongst Recovery Operators and Patrols".

With far too many recovery operators been killed or injured on our roads each year, recovery charities need your support At the very least, when you next see a recovery vehicle working on a hard shoulder (or worse a country lane), please slow down and give him a wide berth.
