More Winter Driving Tips
Originally we had a good article her regarding driving in the winter with good tips, but because it was also published elsewhere, the page never got listed and was never found so we decided to do some research and write our own.
Driving In Winter
Clearly different skills and consideration need to be taken when driving in winter than in summer. The nights become darker the roads wet and slippy and the roads tend to slow down, especially in rush hour.
Accidents that occur in the winter time do not just happen because of the the colder weather. It seems we as individuals change our moods and driving habits too.
It is one thing to be driving home form work on a warm summer evening within our safe cocoon, maybe even with our hoods down in a convertible to being stuck in traffic within a dark environment where everything appears to slow down.
there is less patience in winter time and it seem more accidents are born from this.
Take Christmas Eve for example.
This is one of the busiest times for emergency services and breakdown cover organisations as everyone's priority is to get home for Christmas. Of course this is important but buts seems our brains switch off our safety valves that would normally slow us down a bit and allow us to take chances that we would not normally take.
Why is it that when the weather forecast tells us it is going to snow, we leave for work at exactly the same time, or should I say leave the house at the same time and then be faced with an iced over windscreen. We then clean the windscreen and now already 5 minutes late attempt to make up the time, within a traffic environment that has slowed down.
Breakdown down cover organisations know this and always schedule their workforce to suit the expected increase in demand.
So what tips can we give you
Look out for the weather forecast the day before.
Know that the traffic will be slower so plan for it
Has your car being serviced recently? Make sure it is reliable
Check your tyre depth
Check your spare wheel
Check your water level in your windscreen washer bottles
Consider a breakdown cover policy
Keep extras in your car, like a fully charged mobile phone ( not whist driving), torch, snacks, red triangle and jump leads.
